Quite the great detail work on this place. Very nice pictures. Great finials and other things to please the eye. I bet it would be quite nice to live in this place. Usually I don’t care for large places.

That’s awesome! So does it make me totally lame that, because I love history so much, I sometimes daydream about living in that time period, in one of those stately houses, wearing a bustle and sporting a parasol? If it wasn’t for the lack of air conditioning, I would have loved it!

LOL. Not lame at all. But the heat. Can you imagine the heat? And the corset… The house is for sale for 1 million I think, ;-)

Nice. I’d love to live in a historical house too, mostly because I majorly lust after wood floors, cool baseboards, ceiling mouldings, medallions, antique chandeliers, etc., etc.! Where I live, the old house are pueblos, which don’t exactly excite me in the same manner…

Well, we do have the Frank Lloyd Wright fame, but otherwise the Chicago suburban area is really not famous for “old” houses either. When we started looking in Boston area for potential housing, THAT was eye-opening. But everything is so expensive. My very “adorable” husband asked incredulously, Now why do I want to pay $800K for a house that’s almost a century old?! LOL

My inner architectural historian is dying to know about the onion-dome moldings above the two windows on the second floor of the Norman-style tower. The windows don’t appear to be the same size, which makes the moldings even more interesting. Any clues?

I have to plead ignorance on this one. Apparently the local community has tried to raise enough fund to purchase the house for the historical society but it was not successful. I found very minimum info on the wiki:

Now, why did you have to say it was for sale? I’m with Linda at Bar Mitzvahzilla, I want a big old house just for the cool stuff. I still have in my head the memorized layouts of every huge old house I’ve been in. I’ll decorate and furnish them from my bed in the nursing home.

And we’ll go swim in the pool in the house next door and find strange golden egg-shaped things on the bottom… Oh, sorry. I just think of the movie Cocoon every time nursing home is mentioned… ;-)

Wonderful house! So many fabulous details. Tell me it doesn’t have a gas station across the street and a factory next door.

Thankfully it’s in a quiet, older, residential area where the village office, the police department and the park district is located. They have been trying to see it for a few years now. No taker yet.
