Happy VCNYAHS Day!

February 14.

One of the Hallmark Holiday is celebrated on this day.

It also happens to be the day Anna Howard Shaw was born. Ms. Shaw was a leader of the women’s suffrage movement and a physician nonetheless. In the 19th century. A female physician. Imagine that.

Liz Lemon on 30 Rock dared to lead the movement to displace Valentine’s Day by shouting “Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day!” and I am sorely tempted to follow her lead…

(Watch the best episode of 30 Rock, in fact arguably the best “Valentine’s Day” episode in the TV Sitcom history so far, imo, “Anna Howard Shaw Day”…)

… IF it were not for the Valentine’s Day “card” I received from Mr. Monk…

"No matter how much you are stressed out I still love you"

So… In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, this is the card I really really would love to give to Mr. because I am a truth seeker…

Turns out, the card goes both ways... (Courtesy of Marcy @ "The Glamorous Life")

This year, February 14 also happens to be the Chinese New Year Day. The Chinese operated (and still do to a large extent) by the lunar calendar which makes a lot of sense if you are (or have been) an agriculture-based society and your livelihood depends on knowing the climate and weather and minor things like that.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Here is wishing you all a

Happy ValentineChineseNewYearAnnaHowardShaw Day!!!

p.s. Now raise your hand if the thought of The Year of Tiger makes you start humming Eye of the Tiger… If you weren’t… You are welcome!

You sure are! LOL. I am a cock too so that means we are the same age… Nah. I believe we are 1 “12-year-cycle” apart… That makes me feel like a “dirty old lady” just talking to ya…

It’s also Presidents’ Day Eve — don’t forget that! Or haven’t you decorated your Presidents’ Day tree in preparation for gathering ’round it to sing traditional Presidents’ Day carols? No?

I went to Chinatown this afternoon and watched the dragons dance and cowered away from the noisy, noisy firecrackers and ate a lot of dim sum. So, the Year of the Tiger is _on_! (Though it would be better if it was the Year of the Squirrel. Or the Year of the Giraffe. Those would be very good years to have, I think.)

The year of the cat? How about that? The Vietnamese Zodiac does have year of Cat. Well, you all know already because of the song…

LOL. Yup. Time to get our tiger on indeed. In Chinese, the term for “tigress” also means “shrew” a la “Kate” in The Taming of the Shrew. I love Kate. 🙂

I always liked Nigel Bruce as Watson, a great humpher in the grand British humphing tradition. And I think your kid is pretty darn observant! Once I gave up hoping my husband was going to surprise me one year and actually give me something for Valentine’s Day I started to sort of enjoy the holiday. In Walmart this a.m. there were an abundance of helium hearts floating through the store and what seemed like acres of ready-to-go flowers. We’re also celebrating Mardi Gras season here so you could buy balloons, candy, flowers AND a King Cake all in one swoop. For my husband, who is offshore, I drew a heart with our initials on the kitchen blackboard, took a picture of it, and emailed it to him. I think he’ll like it and maybe he’ll draw some flowers and email the photo back to me. Ah, romance.

That child’s inner mind must truly be a wonderment! I so enjoy hearing about that sweetheart!

LOVE the Valentine card. They just don’t make sentiments like they used to!

I looked at the famous 2/14 birthday list and saw Nigel Bruce on it. I remember seeing him in old movies (a funny man!) but on this list, they identify him as: SON OF LASSIE, SPIDER WOMAN. (It does make you want to check out his photo, doesn’t it!)

Happy ValentineChineseNewYearAnnaHowardShaw Day to you, too.

Right back atcha! Love the card — my sentiments exactly. 🙂 And isn’t it great that our kids will love us even when we are stressed out? Do they realize that they are half the reason we are stressed out?? Ack! Precious though, that little Monk.
