I know many will disagree: but for me, this election is all about a (not so covert any more) culture war. “Cutting taxes & Smaller Government” to me is another code for “Compassionate Conservatism”, i.e. “I feel sorry for you man but I am not gonna share with you. Sorry. It sucks to be you I know.” The economy? You cannot have years of wrongful financial practices, an entire Wall Street in cahoot, crazy housing market bubbles and scoundrels getting fat over “I Cannot Believe It’s NOT Illegal!” business models without suffering the consequences for a painfully long duration of time.
The economy, like the flu, simply has to run its course.
The irony is when the economy finally recovers, the GOP is going to take credit for having something to do with it now that all predictions point towards their taking over the house.
I am fully aware that I am in a blessed position to preach Patience because we all know that when you have to decide to pay for the utility bills or to pay for your children’s winter clothes Patience is overrated. However, do you really think that the GOP will be able to perform miracles? Their claim to have the exclusive direct line to GOD nonetheless? When all the big businesses and all the houses with 12 bathrooms support a certain group of candidates, shouldn’t we all be just a tad suspicious?

The cartoons are SO accurate! I do love your courage, Lady!
I’d bet that Sarah Palin is going to see this election as a mandate to run in 2012.
Enjoy those Sedaris downloads. Have a wonderful, wonderful, pineapple-y trip! π

I couldn’t find the time to watch Sedaris interviewed by Jon Stewart so I bought the iTune download. SUCKER I am. Yes I know. π
Oh….I feel completely opposite. I work on the front lines with the impoverished that the Democrats love and aid so much, and sadly, all their love and aid doesn’t do much good. It stays the same. I really could care less about polotics but I can’t stand when people degrade parties. I care about people. I don’t really care if they are democrats or republicans.
The whole system needs to change, I agree. However GOP’s rallying cry for cutting taxes (for whom?) and smaller government (but not on “a certain” issue), IMO, is not the answer.
Agreed! The economy reminds me of losing weight. Once you’re at your highest weight, and it’s time to diet, you think it should come off as quickly as it seems like you put it one, even though it took months, even years to get to that point! All you know is you don’t want to be fat anymore RIGHT NOW and the person with the fastest weight loss program is always the one you look to first!

This is an awesome analogy! That’s why diet plans/pills/meals is such a huge industry: they never deliver but people keep on looking for the easiest one!
A bunch of finger pointers no matter whose in charge.
But rock the vote.

It’s raining here so I thought I’d trot over to the local volunteer fire dept where we have all of three voting machines and everyone forgets how to use them but I thought oh, it’s raining so I, The Lone Liberal In Southern Mississippi, could sail right in and out. Ha! It was packed! And all we’re voting for are a bunch of “non-partisan” judges and the longtime Democratic House Rep. Gene Taylor, who I personally informed I wouldn’t vote for since he voted against healthcare reform. Well, I did cast my vote for him today because I was there to vote but it was mainly a vote against the Republican. I’m afraid John Boehner is going to have one hell of a BONER before this night is over. Woe.
Represent m’lady! Sorry about the whole Lesser Evil thing… I am not sure I want to watch the election results but I probably will be glued to the TV tonight.
I’m always more than a tad suspicious.
Smart lady. π
I voted. But in my red state I’m feeling a little despair.

Yes, yes, yes! Why is it that catchphrases and empty promises fire up a certain base of people? For the life of me, I cannot understand when Sarah Palin shrieks “How do you like your freedoms”? what she means! Have I lost some rights lately I don’t know about?
Sadly, many things in this economy are tied to things like housing and real estate, which are not going to bound back to the grossly inflated levels they were at. That was all a house of cards that isn’t going to be put back together again, and it certainly wasn’t going to happen in less than 24 months.

I saw a YouTube vid where “tautology” is expertly practiced: What makes you think they are socialist? Because they want to create a socialistic healthcare system. Eh. So what makes you think they want a socialistic healthcare system? And so on and so on. Sigh.
Voted this morning, bright and early. And now, the hard part. I hate waiting helplessly. It’s making me crazy.
You rock the vote and you rock the blog. π Power to the people!
Less than half an hour to go. I know in my heart that the GOP candidate is going to win the senate seat vacated by Obama. I actually wrote about the GOP guy before. Ugh.
Loved this post. I wish I had the guts to do a post like this, but I always hesitate to “get political” because I get attacked. Maybe one of these days I’ll be courageous enough.
Thanks for saying it, and for saying it well. You absolutely, 100% correct!
