I love New York City. I truly do. I wish it were really my city.

I took these pictures in August when I was there for BlogHer 2010. I was thinking of New York City more than usual because of the anniversary of September 11 which was the day before this post was published.
I am leaving for a business trip again. [ETA: Boston]. Somehow this time I am feeling a bit resentful towards having to get on a plane and leave my family behind, and not just because in order to catch the 6 am flight I’ll need to get up before 4 am… This is peculiar since usually by Sunday noon I am already tired of all the whining and ready to get back to work where ABSOLUTELY NO WHINING IS ALLOWED.
“All my bags are packed I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin’ it’s early morn
The taxi’s waitin’ he’s blowin’ his horn
Already I’m so lonesome I could die
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go
Cause I’m leavin’ on a jet plane…”
I love these pictures! DB has lived there a couple of times, returning home on weekends. I would love to have lived there awhile. We still talk about it sometimes. We didn’t want to uproot the kids and I’m not second guessing that, but I think living there and learning to get around would instill confidence. Or agoraphobia.

You heard of this mom getting into trouble for sending her 9 yo son onto the NY subway to school all by himself right?
(Wow. Just checked to get the URL to the blog post: 581 comments!)
It’s my fault for being confusing. I went to Boston for business. Those pictures were taken when I went to BlogHer in NYC this August. I simply put my iPhone (without a SIM card) next to the window and then Tap Tap Tap until I can no longer see anything interesting. I’ve been doing this for a while now and I gather all the photos (good and bad) here on Flickr:

I would love going back to NYC in the near future. Yes, we should plan on a reunion of some sort. That would be LOVELY. I want to cry just thinking about it.
Funny we got pictures of Chicago as we were landing from our trip to DC and it had quite an effect on me. I love New York too, but my heart belongs to Chicago.

If I were single, I would have chosen New York. Chicago is where my kids know, so Chicago it is then. 🙂
nice pics. meet me for cafe!
Get them to fly you over eastern long island so that I can wave!! I’m sure you have the miles to be convincing!
Did you wave? I could have sworn I felt a wave.

It has been way too many years since I’ve gazed down at NYC from that view! Thank you for the reminder. It’s equally as beautiful at night, but impossible to get a good picture of. Well, for me, but I have minimal skills with a camera!
I wish it were my town too. I really do sometimes. Have a great trip!

I like the photo out the window on the plane seeing the wing and looking down on a beautiful city.

Doing anything on a Sunday other than eating, napping and tv/interneting I find to be blasphemous.
I wish for you, that you didn’t have to travel this past Sunday.
XOXO

Yes, it’s Central Park. The only big patch of green in NYC so easy to spot. LOL. That’s the dirty window I think. Or at least I hope!
NYC from the sky looks gorgeous! It’s such a fabulous city.
Those 6am flights are tough. Safe travels.
