The Internet has changed forever what we take pictures of…

… even more so now that Smart Phones are becoming ubiquitous. For the better… or for the worst?

To a certain extent it has changed WHEN and WHERE we take pictures. The way we interpret the world. The way we caption the things we see. Now every snap shot that comes through my daily life deserves demands a caption of its own. A running commentary, subtitle of some sort.

NO! Don’t! That’s not what I was trying to do, making people feel bad. I do that a lot I know, but not this time. I would LOVE to see the pics from your Romantic surprise getaway. Ok, but not the too Romantic part. That would be… weird. Maybe if you have a picture of Creamed Corn I’d really appreciate it. I have a crush on him now methinks.

I always feel like somebody’s watching me.
    Seriously.
Just a few weeks ago, I was at Walgreen’s getting my son some teething medicine. After the purchase, I was buckling him into his car seat. Unfortunately, I had to bend over to accomplish such a task, so my big ass was waving around in the air. But after only a few moments, I felt like someone was looking. you know that intense feeling where your neck gets goose bumps and you get THAT BURN. That burn that signifies you are being watched. So I whipped into an upright position and glanced over my shoulder.
AT TWO TEENAGE BOYS AND A CAMERA PHONE.
And to my horror, the phone was pointed DIRECTLY AT ME.
AND THEY WERE GIGGLING, their necks craning while they looked at the camera’s screen.
God help us all. My fat ass is probably being displayed somewhere on the Internet.

Oh, Jen, I am so sorry! I mean it. That would be my nightmare scenario… Ever since I discovered People of Walmart, I am afraid of going into Walmart ever again. (Beside, I don’t agree with their labor policies etc. But that’s a different issue…)

Your bathroom sign reminds me of the one I saw in the London Airport. It was inside the bathroom…posted right next to the stall: No Smoking In Toilet.

    Ummm…ok?

I never thought about it that way – but you are so right! But seriously, cell phones that record video and take pictures scare me. I’m so afraid my daughter (with her blurred sense of privacy due to her belonging to the facebook/iphone/youtube generation) is going to post something unflattering of her dear old mother. And don’t you snicker– it could happen to you.

I am not laughing at you at all. I have put down the LAW: nobody takes any picture of me. Period. Even on Facebook, I don’t allow people to “tag” me in a picture. I am such an antisocial bitch. (yeah, and that’s why I am on Facebook… I know I know. Tis ironic…)

Soon your girls will be able to show you… Kids are “scary” in that way nowadays… I now just hand all electronics to my 11 yo and let him figure it out first. Then he can tell me in plain English.

You are a photographer therefore it would be even more interesting to know what you think about how the Interweb has changed how we view photography. Neat! By the way, that post about flying with kids, I am going to recommend it to all thinking about flying with kids.
