The Obligatory New Year’s Day Post

Only 3 days late.

.

I spent time agonizing over NOT working on my posts rather than actually working on my posts

.

(Cue music: “I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?” Even more a loser because I am partying like it is 1993 to this song sitting at my desk…)

.

This should make it clear my opinion on new year resolutions...

.

.

Now that we got the obligatory discussion of New Year’s resolutions out of the way, I can now move on to talk about what’s been bothering me… But you’ll have to wait because I realized, after the effect, that 1/1/2011 is a big day for my home country, and I need to give it some sort of shoutout:

.

.

.

100 years ago, Dr. Sun Yet-sen led the revolutionaries to finally overthrow the Qing dynasty. So this is the beginning of the 100th year for the Republic of China (not to be confused with the current China CHINA…)  There was a spectacular firework display from within Taipei 101 (which was the tallest building in the world up until not too long ago), and thanks to YouTube, I could honestly say I felt like I was there.

So…

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO and FROM TAIWAN.

.

.

.

.

From the ever witty Gawker:

This is a fireworks portrait of (non-communist) Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat-sen (from the New Year’s celebration in Taipei, Taiwan), but really, it could be anyone, so send this picture your friends and tell them that it’s you.

Here’s my footnote:

But remember that 1 out of 4 people on earth will recognize this face since even China CHINA recognizes Dr. Sun Yat-sen as “the Father of the Nation”.

I LOVE, love, love your obligatory New Year’s post — as reluctantly posted as it was. You, my dear, are so witty, so entertaining. One of the bloggers I’ve missed in my blogging absence (and fake come back, as I’ve been having a heck of a time finding computer time in this crazy life I call mine). So, Happy New Year to you, dear friend. And congrats to Taiwan and you!

(But did I miss something? What’s bothering you?)

Please – please don’t ask me to sum up in one word what this post is about. You did crack me up with your desire to write about vibrators. Most people want to play with them, but you? Nah, you’re poetic, you write about them! Cheers!

  • secret agent woman January 3, 2011, 8:11 pm

Yeah, I didn’t write about resolutions either.

Happy New year to you and Taiwan.

Happy New Year to you, Lin, and to Taiwan!

    My New Year’s resolutions:

    1. Get a vibrator.

    I think that one’s do-able!

    Hugs,

Thanks for the reminder – my son lives in China and I need to ask him what celebrations he went to. I’m sure whatever it was it was spectacular. The Chinese do know how to party down. I recently read The Last Emporer and was riveted. Such interesting history!

My annual and identical New Year’s Resolution has been recycled for 2011: Get goofier.

I’ve re-resolved it each year since my twenties and I think, at sixty-two, it’s finally starting to kick in. The big, important changes like this one take time and patience, which is what makes them so worthwhile. Vibrators come and go, but puerility is timeless.

Now, tell auntie whatsa matta you.

No resolutions, no vibrators, not much knowledge of the overthrow of the Qing dynasty. But I am wishing you a Happy New Year and hoping this earth lasts another year so I can read your blog.

LOL. I will contact one of the 1000s of factories on Alibaba.com and commence to produce a prototype. Brilliant you!

  • ThePeachy1 January 4, 2011, 10:01 am

I adore you. I also refused to do New Years post. However Dr Sun Yat-sen was indeed a remarkable person and if we can celebrate Columbus Day ( where an Italian used Spanish money to “find” the Americas which were never lost in the first place) then we should all hope to realize the greatness of what a real accomplishment Sun Yat-sen made. The next part is probably all wrong and if it is forgive me. 新年快乐祝福你 My keyboard does not lend nicely to other languages.

My new year’s post last year had the same name-great minds and all that:-) You know, if I were going to do a fireworks display in celebration of 2010, I think I might feature EllyLou’s face in the grand finale. That would be cute, right? And then we could have ukele music in the background.
